Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering
Within the Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering research group, we aim to design new biomaterials that enable an improved therapeutic outcome for a variety of biomedical applications. By applying an interdisciplinary approach on research from materials science, chemistry, biology and medicine, we develop innovative processing techniques for nanostructured and biofunctionalized materials, mainly for an implementation in bone, cartilage and skin tissue applications.
Research
Our research focuses on the design of nanostructured and biofunctionalized materials for wound dressings, implants and tissue engineering constructs. The technologies encompass innovative processing based on additive manufacturing, electrospinning and bioprinting as well as colloidal and electric field assisted techniques.
Projects
We are involved in fundamental research supported by KU Leuven Internal Funds and the Research Foundation - Flanders (FWO) as well as more applied research projects with industrial partners in Europe through the EU Framework Programmes. Here you can find a selection of ongoing and past research as well as PhD projects of our research group.
Team
We are an enthusiastic team of 3 academic staff members supported by a highly international group of motivated postdocs, PhD students and visiting researchers.
Berfu Göksel to win the 2022 BCerS Student Speech Contest
8 December 2022
Congratulations to PhD student Berfu Göksel for winning the 2022 Belgian Ceramic Society (BCerS) Student Speech Contest. She impressed the jury with her talk on the "Optimization of direct ink writing parameters and post processing to produce high-density monolithic alumina toughened zirconia parts". We wish Berfu good luck at the European Ceramic Society Student Speech Contest during the upcoming ECerS2023 conference in Lyon on 2-6 July 2023.
